Time for a Data
Recovery ORG?
Editor:- August 14, 2008 - there are plenty of
Storage Industry Trade
Associations - but one subject which has not been adequately covered is
Data Recovery
The
need for a data recovery trade association was first mentioned on these pages
in 2004 when a
white paper from
ActionFront called for - "an independent data recovery trade
association to be formed to certify data recovery companies and for companies to
submit claims of recovery capabilities for independent review."
Nothing
came of that idea - and the following year (2005) ActionFront was acquired by
Seagate Recovery Services.
In
2007 Simon Steggles, Director of
Disklabs contacted me
to say he was thinking about setting up a data recovery ORG. It didn't make
these news pages - because it wasn't much more than an idea at the time.
But
a year later (August 2008) the International
Professional Data Recovery Association is inviting companies in the industry
to join together to "assist organisations and individuals that have lost
data by pointing them towards qualified, experienced and certified Data Recovery
companies."
