DMI is a community for those who are involved in the management
and protection of a business' most irreplaceable non-human asset: its data.
Launched in May 2002, DMI has developed a worldwide presence and has begun
defining Data Management as a specific IT discipline by training more than 800
Data Managers and Data Protection Specialists in the USA, Argentina, Australia,
Brazil, Portugal and South Africa. Recently, the organization launched a web
portal for Data Managers at www.datainstitute.org, where a Charter Membership
program is currently underway. By completing an exhaustive questionnaire
intended to capture information on problems and pain points in current storage
and data management technologies, applicants will receive a free "sponsored"
membership in DMI. Data collected in the effort will be used to produce an
annual report on storage technology from the consumer's perspective. DMI has
also begun work on a Purpose-Built Storage Initiative, intended to drive cost
out of storage infrastructure by leveraging manageable arrays constructed from
commodity components and designed by consumers to meet specific application
workloads in a manageable way. The Initiative has garnered the attention and
participation of leading storage component and software manufacturers including
Seagate, Western Digital, Adaptec, Intel, Computer Associates, Tek-Tools, and
many others.

and Security Regulations - How Do they Impact Storage Systems? - article by
ASNP

storage system, backup and disaster recovery and encryption mandated for
companies operating in the US?
This article answers those questions
and is a sound starting point for anyone having the duty of care and
responsibility for their corporate data. Because regulations change so quickly
it's worth considering the impact of these best practises on your own
organisation even if you think you are currently outside the scope of these
laws. That will reduce the level of panic when they creep up on you. ...read the article,,
