- editor's comments:- November 2009 - although Harris Interactive
has been cited by a handful of storage companies - the nature of their business
means that these have mostly been tactical projects (to sample popular
opinions about specific issues in order to demonstrate the "need"
for particular products or services) rather than outputs from long running
storage focused research.
That's what I refer to as the "storage
soothsayer" role.
For example - let's say you sell a product like
a a consumer backup system... Being able to quote a reliable figure that "such
and such a percentage of consumers don't do regular backups" based on a
sample of the population - makes a
more publishable story
than merely quoting an opinion by the marketing team.
It's likely that
as SSDs become a bigger
part of the consumer electronics market - we'll see more quotes citing specially
commisioned Harris polls to demonstrate market leadership, user concerns and
other background tapestry in future storage press releases. |
