- Editor's comments:- in June 2010 - Nirvanix launched
hNode
- a hybrid cloud storage
service which
includes all the networking hardware, software and storage needed to provide an
on-premise cloud storage solution contained in a minimum 200TB configuration,
expandable to petabytes. The customer provides data center space, power and
cooling and Nirvanix staff monitor, manage and maintain the solution.
In
May 2012 - Nirvanix
announced it has raised over $25 million in a Series C funding round -
bringing its total capital raised to $70 million.
Nirvanix today (May
2013) isn't engaged with the SSD market - and that's why I'm not covering
it. Their focus is on what they call
Tier N storage by
which they mean treating cloud storage as a new tier. This is currently at the
opposite end of the performance spectrum from most SSD requirements - however
there will be convergence when
SSDs replace HDDs
in the datacenter as lowest cost to own capacity.
We haven't got
there yet - but the SSD industry is close (1 to 3 years).
