- editor's comments:- February 2011 - Fujitsu, like
Oracle is a leading
manufacture of SPARC
servers - as well as being a world class semiconductor memory company.
In my 20 years experience reporting on this company Fujitsu has tended to
think about things for a long time before making drastic market moves and until
now Fujitsu hasn't yet created any any world class SSDs. But they are well
aware of the SSD market revolution as shown by these public activities.
In February 2009 - Fujitsu took the bold step of confirming it would
transfer 80% of its HDD business to
Toshiba as the first stage
of exiting the hard drive manufacturing market.
And in October 2010
- Fujitsu was one of 5 founding companies for a new
storage ORG - the
SSD Form Factor Working Group -
which will standardize and
PCIe SSDs.
"...We
believe that the PCIe Standard Form Factor specification will accelerate the
market adoption of PCIe SSDs, offering an electromechanical solution with
disk-like handling and true hot-plug capability. Building on the experience as a
promoter of the eNVMHCI working group, we now also drive this standardization
effort as a promoter, underlining once more our dedication to provide best in
class solutions to customers." - Jens -Peter Seick, Senior VP Datacenter
Systems Product Division at Fujitsu Technology Solutions
