other things - includes removable sealed modules for SSDs in a variety of form

Mountain Secure Systems is a new name (to me)
which I only heard about recently.
But when I looked more closely at
my storage news
archives it appeared I had heard about the company once before (under its
earlier name Mountain Optech) in a news story about
Conduant in
November 2004.
Even
in those days my interests were already turning heavily towards SSDs - and
so I didn't notice in 2009 when the company
changed its name to
Mountain Secure Systems.
In MSS's pre-SSD era their business
speciality was designing rugged protective packaging for rotating storage
media.
But nowadays - as it implies on their web site - SSDs need
protection too.
As well as racks and modules their products include
carriers which convert COTS 2.5" SSDs to rugged
3.5" - via
carriers. |

today announced
it has recently shipped an order of hot swappable 2.5" SATA SSD modules
to a leading defense contractor, which will be integrated into a pod system for
the
MQ-9
Reaper Drone - for use by the U.S. military to monitor U.S. borders and
gather video surveillance intelligence.

The removable 2.5 SATA memory devices mate
with a customized docking bay and are environmentally sealed for protection
against rapid decompression, EMI, humidity, dust, salt fog, immersion and
condensation.
The
hot
swappable device (pdf) includes mini mil-circular connectors (rated for
100,000 insertion cycles), +28VDC power, EMI filters, and captive thumb screws
for docking.
