FRAMINGHAM, Mass - February 7, 2007 - IDC has published a new report - "Worldwide Storage 2007 Top 10 Predictions".
"This year, both the storage and server industries will take steps to bridge the gap between their virtualization solutions," said Richard Villars, vice president of Storage Systems research at IDC. "We expect to see enhancements at multiple levels including SAN drivers, data replication, and integration between server and storage virtualization management platforms." The report (14 pages) costs $3,500. ...IDC profile
Editor's comments:- storage is an exciting market. But the full text of IDC's press release makes dull reading. I suppose the dilemma with a press release like this is not to give too many of the juicy bits away. And it's not supposed to be a novel.
Personally I don't think that IDC's past track record at storage market predictions would make me rush to get my credit card - even if the price was 10x lower. But some big companies have to waste their money on stuff like this - so that they can tell their bosses they reviewed all the critical information. It's called CYA and a whole industry of marketing soothsayers delivers many standard shapes and sizes with optional customized padding.
I don't think Bill Gates paid for any analysts to tell him about the opportunities in the PC software market when he founded Microsoft and neither did Federico Faggin codeveloper of the first 8 bit microprocessor.

Nexsan Beefs Up iSCSI SATABeast
WOODLAND HILLS, Calif. - February 5, 2007 - Nexsan Technologies today announced upgrades to its SATABeast and SATABoy storage products.
This firmware upgrade boosts performance to 100MB per second for Nexsan RAID storage using a single iSCSI port, and 180MBps using dual ports. Dual controller performance doubles these numbers. The upgrade will be standard for all SATABeast and SATABoy systems shipped as of today, and is available as a free firmware update for existing customers.
SATABoy and SATABeast offer dual Fibre Channel as well as dual iSCSI ports on each controller. This multi-protocol approach allows the massive storage capacity of these products to be allocated to either Fibre Channel or iSCSI initiators, or operate both protocols simultaneously, as needed.
Nexsan's AutoMAID technology (Autonomic Massive Array of Idle Disks) allows customers to place their disk drives into an idle state to conserve energy, yet provide near-instantaneous access to data. AutoMAID is granular to an individual drive or RAID set and offers multiple levels of energy savings enabling users to determine the right level of access speed and energy savings for their environment. ...Nexsan Technologies profile
