"This year, both the storage and server industries will take steps to bridge the gap between their virtualization solutions," said Richard Villars, vice president of Storage Systems research at IDC. The report (14 pages) costs $3,500. ...IDC profile Editor's comments:- storage is an exciting market. But the full text of IDC's press release makes dull reading. I suppose the dilemma with a press release like this is not to give too many of the juicy bits away. And it's not supposed to be a novel. Personally I don't think that IDC's past track record at storage market predictions would make me rush to get my credit card - even if the price was 10x lower. But some big companies have to waste their money on stuff like this - so that they can tell their bosses they reviewed all the critical information. It's called CYA and a whole industry of marketing soothsayers delivers many standard shapes and sizes with optional customized padding. I don't think Bill Gates paid for any analysts to tell him about the opportunities in the PC software market when he founded Microsoft and neither did Federico Faggin codeveloper of the first 8 bit microprocessor.
