New High-Volume DDR2 SO-DIMM Test Adapter

Houston, Texas March 11, 2008 INNOVENTIONS, Inc. is now shipping a rugged adapter for testing 200-pin DDR2 SO-DIMM memory modules with its RAMCHECK memory tester.

It tests PC2-5300/5400, PC2-4200 and PC2-3200 DDR2 modules and is manufactured specifically for high-volume testing. During each test, the memory module's size, structure and type are automatically detected. The tester spots bad memory chips and alerts the user with a warning tone and visual signal. A typical test takes less than a minute.

"DDR2 SO-DIMM modules are now the predominant memory used in laptops," said David Y. Feinstein, President of INNOVENTIONS. "Manufacturers need a way to quickly test SO-DIMMs on site, without the need for high-end testing equipment that may be located in another facility. RAMCHECK and the DDR2 SO-DIMM adapter make this possible. The new adapter is also great for distributors and retailers who need a low-cost way to verify memory quality..." ...INNOVENTIONS profile

Iomega Says No to EMC Buyout Offer

SAN DIEGO - March 10, 2008 - Iomega Corp announced today the receipt of an unsolicited non-binding indication of interest from EMC Corp, in which EMC indicated that it is prepared to offer to acquire the outstanding common stock of Iomega.

Iomega's board of directors met on March 9, 2008, and unanimously determined that the proposal from EMC would not reasonably constitute a superior proposal. ...Iomega profile, ...EMC profile

Editor's comments:-
a few years ago I predicted that the long term threat to EMC, NetApp etc comes from NAS becoming a predominantly consumer / SMB market. Acquiring Iomega would have been a cheap way for EMC to dip its toes into unfamiliar water - where budgets and vendor ties are more shallow.

The best hope for the biggest storage box vendors like EMC, IBM etc is to stay in the controlled climate of the datacenter - and siphon off some of the torrents of cash that will be spent on solid state disk accelerators.

...Later:- Iomega did get acquired by EMC.

"Shipments of SSD solutions, such as those in Imation's SSD solutions meet the requirements for this performance-demanding storage market are expected to increase at a 73% CAGR through 2011." ...Imation profile, ...Mtron profile

Editor's comments:-
oeming Mtron's high performance flash SSDs is a good business move for Imation - which has a well known (50 years old) storage brand. The SSD market provides Imation with a shimmering Stargate like escape route out of the shrinking tape backup market.
